June 5 to June 9, 2015,
10.30am to 7.00pm, St Chad's Church, Uppermill, Parish Centre, Station Road, Uppermill, Oldham, OL3 6LW
The Flower Festival with the theme ‘Yesterday,Today and Tomorrow’ celebrates 800 years of Christian faith and worship on the Parish Church site since 1215 AD. The church was originally built on an ancient route connecting centres of population in the sparsely populated area of scattered hamlets and building was finally completed in 1272. Over the years the building was enlarged to accommodate the ever-growing population but by 1830 had fallen into a state of disrepair. After heated debates it was decided to demolish the church and rebuilding work was completed in 1833 with a new tower being completed in 1864.
This is the impressive church that can be seen today and which will form the backdrop for a wonderful display of flowers which will enhance its beauty.
