Cross Keys Killer Fell Race
June 10, 2015, 7.30pm, Cross Keys Inn, Running Hill Gate, Uppermill, OL3 6LW.
Tickets: £6 on the day. Minimum age 18.
Organised by Saddleworth Runners Club. 4 miles (6.4km) with 850 ft (259m) ascent.
The Cross Keys Killer is, despite its name, an accessible introduction to fell running for anyone who can run a 10k. Why not? It's so much more fun! There'll be just 100 or so runners, so no big crowds, great views, a variety of footpaths and a chip butty at the end, all for £6.
Can you get lost? You'd have to try really hard to get lost! The route will be well flagged and well marshalled along clear paths, but it's always best to carry a compass if you are at all worried.
Do you need to take anything with you? The race organiser will want to keep you safe, if, for example, you twist an ankle. The race is in June, so the weather should be warm, but it can be exposed on the fells. We always recommend you take a windproof jacket, because you get cold quickly if you can't run. Other kit such as waterproof trousers, hats and gloves will only be required if the weather is unseasonably poor.
Enjoy the friendly atmosphere of a small race and the variety of terrain. It's an ideal race to try out fell running.More about the artist »
