Saddleworth Live at the Millgate

Message from Michael and Tim

Our Millgate Night at the Proms was a great success.

It was a fantastic occasion and so lovely to see the community coming together to sing and have fun. It was a perfect celebration of music, local talent and of the wonderful community asset that is the Millgate theatre.

The feedback from the audience was extremely complimentary. The performers put on a really memorable show with a programme that was diverse and wide-ranging in musical styles and we thought it appealed to all of the different age groups of people who were there.

We really appreciate the help Saddleworth Festival of the Arts gave us by way of the generous grant. This enabled us to put on the best show possible and the ticket money from the evening raised a substantial amount for the Millgate’s ongoing arts programme. We know that for some people it was their first visit to the Millgate and we hope to see them back though the doors again soon.

We were able to showcase upcoming Saddleworth events during the course of the evening too: A Yorkshire-based theatre company (Right Hand Theatre) made a guest appearance to perform a song from their own original new musical (No Horizon) that they will be touring throughout the North next year. The Millgate is proud to be included in this tour (15th April) as it puts us alongside other, larger theatres (York Theatre Royal, Harrogate Theatre, Barnsley Civic, Doncaster CAST, Theatre by the Lake Keswick etc). Also, Ian Ball from the Saddleworth Musical Society gave a magnificent performance of ‘If I Were a Rich Man” to publicise their autumn production, ‘Fiddler on the Roof’. It was one of the many highlights of the evening went down a storm with those present.

Here are some photos taken last night. (I have more and a few short videos if you would like them also.)

Many thanks again.
